Phyllanthus protect and support the Liver by improving the functioning of Ranjak Pitta. Ranjak Pitta is considered to regulate the functioning of liver, spleen, pancreas and regulates blood metabolism in Ayurvedic Physiology. Phyllanthus promotes bile secretion, detoxifies liver and blood. It has potent antiviral action against hepatic viruses. Extract of the plant Phyllanthus niruri inhibits endogenous DNA polymerase of hepatitis B virus and binds to the surface antigen of hepatitis B virus in experimental studies.
It highly valued for its health benefits on liver and other vital organs. Punarnava removes the fat deposits from liver, and it is also helpful in reducing hepatic swellings.
Chirata is widely used in Classical Ayurveda in Liver Health. Chiretta protects the damage of hepatic tissue from chemical drugs and antibiotics.

Its active part is Berberine that is found effective in liver problems. Berberis aristata is used as hepatic stimulant and cholagogue (stimulates bile flow). Root extract of Indian Sarsaparilla has resulted in decreased thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) levels, normal levels of glutathione-dependent enzymes, increased total protein, albumin, globulin and liver glycogen contents, an increased A/G ratio, and decreased liver marker enzyme activities and ceruloplasmin levels in Alcoholic liver disease (ALD).
